Congratulations once again to PFC Flyweight fighter Ulysses “Useless” Gomez. Uly fought last night at PFC 9, taking on Hector Alex Sandoval. It was only Gomez’s second MMA fight, he’s 2-0 with neither fight lasting a minute. Uly got the victory by transitioning from standing guillotine to armbar. “Useless” took a bit longer putting his opponent away this time, the fight lasted 51 seconds whereas his last fight lasted just 41 seconds. If this keeps up his next fight should actually last a full minute. I’m thinking a title shot by years end wouldn’t be out of the question.
Highlighting last nights event was Doug “The Rhino” Marshall making his return to the PFC taking on hard hitter Phil “The Pain” Collins. In what was a spirited contest, Marshall defeated Collins by TKO at 40 seconds of the second round.
This is why I’m not a fan of MMA fights taking place in a ring. Referee Herb Dean had to call a stop to a fight between PFC light heavyweight champ Jorge Oliveira and challenger Isiah Larson after both men fell through the ropes during a Larson takedown. Oliveira landed on the media table and after 5 minutes off lying there holding his ribs, it was clear he could not continue. The fight was ruled a no-contest. In my opinion whenever there are takedowns allowed in a fight, the fight should take place in a cage to prevent things like this from happening.
Hometown favorite and John Hackleman protégé Casey Olsen defeated Tito Jones ( who trains with Urijah Faber) by unanimous decision. Chuck Liddell was also on hand cornering Olsen.
