Last night at the Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Ma two new champions were crowned.

First, welterweight champion and fan favorite Chuck ‘Cold Steel’ O’Neil lost his title to Tim Pinney via heel-hook in the 1st rd. After a brief feeling out period, the two fighters engaged but soon hit the ground. O’Neil seemed to be in control as he had Pinney mounted and began reigning down punches but he was perhaps a little to high-up in his mount and Pinney was able to roll him into the heel-hook. O’Neil tried to fight his way out but it was not to be, as ‘Cold Steel’ was forced to tap. Whether it was planned or the moment got the best of him? Pinney then launched himself up and over the cage landing about 14 feet below on the floor before running wildly through the crowd.

The night wouldn’t get any better for Team Aggression as Lightweight Champion Anthony Leate would be the second belt holder to turn over his title. Leate was facing Rene Nazare (4-0) in what would be a hard fought contest with Leate coming out on the wrong end of a rear-naked-choke. Nazare looked great as his strikes were landing crisply and accurately. It started with Nazare landing a devastating knee to the face of Leate which bloodied the champions nose. Leate fired back and it was a turning into a slug-fest but Nazare was landing the bigger shots, after a few more well placed knees to the face of Leate he was finally dropped. The challenger would move in for the kill but somehow Leate was still defending himself, as he turned to avoid the strikes Nazare would take his back and sink in the RNC for the win. Nazare looks to be a force as the new lightweight champion.

In other action, Eric Foley would rebound from his loss to current champion Christian Moorecraft by defeating Michael Mulligan by ‘americana’. Foley used his superb wrestling to continually take Mulligan down and work his ground-and-pound. When it seemed this bout would go to decision, Foley, who had Mulligan in side control was able to lock in the ‘americana’ forcing Mulligan to tap. A guy to keep an eye on is Team Dungeon’s Jeff Wahtola, Wahtola came out on fire as he TKO’d Nate Ayotte in 0:20 of the 1st rd. Wahtola improves to 2-0 in the featherweight division and has very fast, accurate striking to go along with a solid ground game. South Shore Sportfighting’s Tom Giove was able to get a victory over Kurt Calash to improve his record to 10-5 but it would not be easy. Calash was landing brutal kicks to Giove’s legs throughout the fight and looked as though he would take the decision had it gone the distance but Giove wouldn’t have it. In round 3 and with time running out, Giove was able to sink in a guillotine for the win.
