On October 9th the Championship Fighting Alliance (CFA) will host their 3rd event in Miami, Florida and it features some of New Englands top talent. UFC vet John ‘Doomsday’ Howard 14-7 and fighting out of Boston,Ma will face New Hampshire product Dennis Olson 12-6 in the nights main event. Doomsday is looking to get back to the UFC where many believe he still belongs, while Olson will look to prove he belongs in the cage with top level welterweights. Bellator vet and Massachusetts native Brett Oteri 8-2 will take on UFC/Bellator vet Dan Cramer 8-3 out of Danbury,Connecticut. Both fighters are coming off losses, Cramer lost to Jeff Nader at Bellator 48, in a fight that Cramer was dominating until getting TKO’d in the 3rd rd. While Oteri lost for just the 2nd time in his young career to Ryan Quinn on the same Bellator event.
Also on the card will be Howard,Oh prospect Trent McCown. I include McCown as a New Englander because he has spent his last two training camps at Gillett’s MMA in Fall River,Ma under the guidance of Tim Gillett. McCown is in the semi-finals of the CFA lightweight tournament which offers a grand prize of $20,000!! Trent advanced to the semi’s by defeating then 8-0 pro Zach Juusola of Minnesota Martial Arts. Trent won by guillotine in just 37 seconds of the 1st rd. McCown will face 7-0 Patrick Cenoble out of American Top Team. A win will place McCown in the finals which will be held in January.
